INTELSAT 5 solar array
Abstract
The INTELSAT 5 solar arrays are described. The solar array provides the primary energy source for the first three-axes-stabilized INTELSAT spacecraft, which is designed to satisfy INTELSAT communication requirements for the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Ocean regions. The solar array is designed to provide approximately 1.2 kW continously at synchronous orbit for a seven year orbital lifetime. The electrical and a mechanical design of the INTELSAT 5 solar array is discussed. The results of specific development tests performed are presented. Also included are the results of the cover integrated cell tests performed on selected solar cell samples.
