Performance and practical processing-gain limitations of DS-spread communication systems
Abstract
In direct sequence (DS or PN) spread spectrum systems, an increase in the DS code rate increases the processing gain and is normally thought to improve performance (lower bit-error rate). For a fixed jamming environment, however, performance is in fact limited thereby creating a practical limitation on the code rate and simultaneously the processing gain. These limitations are discussed in this paper by way of example.
