Partial response in the FDM-FM radio relay links
Abstract
The efficient use of available frequency spectra for the successful introduction of medium capacity digital radio relay systems in telecommunication networks was investigated. Modulation methods for digital radio relay systems include the use of partial response (PR) coding techniques in connection with frequency modulation PR-FM system to reduce spectrum occupancy. A PR signal was assumed as the baseband signal for an FM system. The power density spectrum of the PR-FM signal was evaluated to determine if it is possible to use the apparatus of existing FDM-FM radio relay systems to carry digital information. Results show compatibility of the PR-FM digital signal with the present CCIR canalization.
