Application of the microprocessor to surface transportation vehicle testing
Abstract
A portable data system using a microprocessor has been developed for the acceptance testing of Boeing Light Rail Vehicles and Rapid Transit Cars. The Microprocessor Production Instrumentation Package (MPIP) acquires, processes, and presents acceptance data in engineered units as the vehicle is being operated on the test track. MPIP uses a 16-bit microprocessor and is packaged in a suitcase enclosure. The system is self-calibrating and has the arithmetic instructions to convert all transducer signals into vehicle parameter data.
