The Gerdien condenser as a probe for charged particle measurements in the lower layers of the ionosphere
Abstract
The paper deals with the design and principle of a two-stage Gerdien condenser used on the MP-12 and M-100 meteorological rockets to measure the concentrations and mobilities of negative and positive ions at heights up to 80 km. The influence of a number of factors which impair the precision of the measurements is assessed.
