The Sirio SHF experiment and its first results
Abstract
Microwave studies involving the Italian geostationary satellite Sirio launched August 1977 are described. Characteristics of the satellite, earth control subsystem and the microwave (referred to as SHF or superhigh frequency) earth stations are reported. The effect of precipitation, mainly rain, on propagation at 12 and 18 GHz (down and up link, respectively) was studied, and attenuation found during the rainy season following March 15 is discussed.
