The satellite transponder performance for the Experimental Communications Satellite /ECS/
Abstract
The paper considers the satellite transponder for ECS with emphasis on its millimeter-wave performance. A block diagram of the millimeter-wave transponder is presented and the following performance features of the transponder are examined in detail: conversion loss, frequency stability of the K-band local oscillators, the frequency response and temperature dependence of the dielectric resonator filter, output power vs input power of the K-band TWTA, oscillator phase-noise, short-term frequency stability, and random-vibration performance. Qualification testing has shown the millimeter-wave and microwave transponders to be reliable.
