Meteors.
Abstract
Meteor streams are considered along with meteors and micrometeoroids, meteor observation techniques, meteor size distribution, meteor influx, orbital parameters of meteoroids, and meteoroid densities. The meteor in the earth's atmosphere is discussed, taking into account the meteor region, meteors and the ionosphere, meteors and superrotation, the classical theory regarding meteoroid deceleration in the atmosphere, the height of maximum mass loss, the variation of luminosity along the train, the effect of thermal conduction and heat capacity on the ablation process, the dissipation of meteor ionization, and the possibility that noctilucent clouds have a meteoric origin. Attention is given to the formation process of a meteor stream from the decay of a cometary nucleus, time variations in the observed rate for sporadics, and meteor stream observations.
