Dynamical history of the stars in relation with age, kinematics, abundances, birthrate
Abstract
Relations involving age, metallicity, distance to the galactic plane, and kinematics are discussed with attention to observed relations between metallicity and the ages of stars in the solar neighborhood. The radial gradients of metallicity and velocity dispersion in the solar neighborhood are described, and the interrelation of stellar birthrate, initial luminosity function, and kinematics is considered. Physical mechanisms for interpreting the relationship between age and kinematics are examined.
