On the use of Strömgren photometry for studying red horizontal-branch stars.
Abstract
Model-atmosphere and theoretical-color calculations indicate that uvby photometry should provide an appropriate method for finding red horizontal-branch stars of intermediate Population II. In an attempt to verify these predictions stars in the metal-rich globular cluster 47 Tuc have been observed, and reasonable agreement with theory is obtained. The possibilities for using uvby photometry in surveying red HB stars are found to be good when the interstellar reddening in E(B-V) is known within about 0.10 mag.
