Studies on satellite communication antennas at University of Naples
Abstract
Studies being carried out at the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Naples, Italy, in the field of satellite communication antennas under several sponsorships are summarized. They include topics in the design of multi-beam reflector antennas, high performance antennas, feed radiation prediction and near-field/far-field techniques. In particular, a proper definition of phase center of a primary feed system is presented, which optimizes the radiation pattern of the secondary radiator; the effect of reflector rim loading on lobe intensity and polarization purity is studied; an alternative formulation of radiation for primary feeds is presented; a new near-field/far-field expansion technique is suggested, based on hyperspheroidal functions representation.
