Experimental investigation of the local characteristics of turbulent swirling flow in a cylindrical channel
Abstract
The experiments described were carried out to determine the local values of the friction stresses, heat fluxes, and turbulent heat-transfer coefficients in bounded swirling flows. It is shown that the axial and tangential components of the friction stress are nonisotropic and that the turbulent transfer coefficients depend on the coordinates and on the rate of swirl. At large moment of momentum gradients, the centrifugal forces in swirling flow act to suppress momentum and turbulent heat transfer in the flow.
