Optimum tapped delay lines for the equalization of multiple channel systems
Abstract
The transmission of digital signals over multiple channel systems is considered with respect to linear receivers. Several algorithms for the computation of the tap coefficients of the multiple tapped delay line, such that the output signals are optimized with respect to some criterion, are given. Two criteria are considered, namely the minimum peak error distortion criterion and the minimum mean square error criterion. By means of examples, these optimum criteria are compared with suboptimum criteria. The suboptimum criteria require much less computing time at the cost of only a slight degradation of the performance of the system.
