Ignition of a pulsed theta-pinch in a single-turn solenoid
Abstract
The mechanism of formation of an impulsive discharge in a single coil solenoid is studied on the basis calculations of the electric-field intensity distribution in the ignition region. The theoretical and experimental results obtained indicate that inductive and theta-pinch discharges initiate in the gap at peak intensities of the field and then develop at either side of the gap along the inner chamber wall in the form of an electrodeless sliding discharge.
