Survey of the present state of the art in applications of solid-state image scanners
Abstract
Applications of solid-state image scanners, such as photodiode, CCD, and CID arrays, are reviewed. The range of applications is classified into several broad groups, and prominent examples of each type of application are given. Some of the basic techniques used in building arrays into instrumentation systems are described. The groups of applications include simple gauging, interpolation, telecentric imaging, shape and form measurements, quality control, interferometry, machine-tool control, optical character recognition, guidance and attitude control for satellites and military weapons, remote reconnaissance, aerial survey and photograph scanning, low-light-level work, radiation damage detection, thermal imaging, and television.
