Pulsed electron gun with tantalum cathode
Abstract
The design of a pulsed electron gun with tantalum cathode intended for a direct-action accelerator is described; a detailed design diagram is presented. Some experimental results for the gun are presented, including electric field distribution, and volt-ampere characteristics for different powers of electron bombardment and different cathode-anode distances. The following parameter values have been specified for the gun: voltage of 15 kV, current of 1.5 A, and pulse duration of 50 microsec.
