Fluctuations of a millimeter-wave beam during propagation in the turbulent absorbing earth-troposphere
Abstract
A theoretical analysis is presented to analyze the effect of fluctuations of molecular absorption by tropospheric water vapor on the statistical characteristics of the amplitude and phase fluctuations of a millimeter-wave beam. Convenient analytical approximate expressions are obtained for the correlation coefficient and the amplitude-modulation depth of the beam as well as for the dispersion of beam-propagation direction. Theoretical results are compared with experimental data on the propagation of Gaussian millimeter-wave beams.
