Tangent-plane aberration in aperture synthesis processing.
Abstract
It is noted that when other than east-west spacings are used, the transform usually employed for processing the measurements of a rotational aperture synthesis radiotelescope causes a reduction in resolution. Calculations are presented for the magnitude of such aberrations. An aberration-free transform is presented and suggestions are made regarding the design of high-resolution aperture synthesis telescopes.
