Power electronic circuit analysis using difference equations
Abstract
An analysis technique for solving circuits containing periodically operated switches were developed and applied extensively to the analysis of power electronic circuits such as inverters, switching regulators, and rectifiers. The approach made use of the state representation of the circuit during the intervals between the switching of the power devices and used difference equations to relate circuit variables at the switching instants. For many circuits, the combination of these two analysis tools leads to closed-form solutions of the circuits. From these solutions, previously unknown information about the circuits can sometimes be found or more efficient presentation of already known data becomes available to the designer and analyst. Specific examples are given to show the superiority of the new approach to traditional methods for some circuits.
