Operating speed limits of switching networks for broadband digital signals
Abstract
An investigation is conducted regarding the limits of the operating speeds of a number of switching network structures which are suited for switching processes involving broadband digital signals. The significant physical and technological effects which limit the obtainable bit rate are studied, taking into account technologically feasible maximum rates and practical operating rates which provide sufficient operational reliability even under unfavorable conditions. A description is presented of various procedures for the determination of maximum operating rates of digital time multiplex switching networks. A described analytical method for the determination of the bit rate limits is based on the amplitude and time requirements. Attention is given to a simulation program system for the study of logic designs before their implementation.
