Screen for protecting sensors from mechanical impurities in a gas flow
Abstract
In present-day arc heaters, the gas is contaminated by impurities by erosion of the electrode or nozzle material. The contamination impairs measurements based on recording processes at the surface of the measuring element. The present paper deals with a visualization study of screens based on the concept of particle separation by inertia. Some results obtained with Prandtl-Meyer flows in a closed-throat wind tunnel are examined.
