Star complexes.
Abstract
From data on galactic Cepheids, 35 star complexes have been identified; these are vast aggregates of stars with an average diameter of about 600 pc and an age of tens of millions of years, encompassing stars that originated in the same gas-dust complex. The Local System is one such star complex. The Cepheid period dispersion indicates that in a given complex the star formation process will last between 20 million and 50 million yr. Almost every young star and cluster might be connected with some particular complex.
