A note on the diffuse interstellar lines.
Abstract
Evidence indicating that type II supernovae must be reddened by about 1 magnitude is summarized. During the SN outburst the dust cloud is exposed to intense radiation. Hence, if a diffuse interstellar line is present in the spectrum of a supernova, it cannot be due to molecular predissociation.
