Optimization of antenna geometry by a computer at the construction site
Abstract
The main reflector of the earth station antenna at Usingen, W. Germany, is considered with reference to its design characteristics as modeled by a desk-top computer. Attention is given to focal length adjustments, with equalization between given and desired parameters. It is noted that the reflector (18.3 m diameter), which consists of 72 panels on 9 different axes, was optimized under extremely severe weather conditions, with good results.
