Fibrous modification in the structure of a fragment of lunar iron
Abstract
The characteristics of deformation in the lunar metallic particle 20045-544 and a fragment of a specified iron meteorite are examined. The examination revealed a typical structure whose principal morphological feature is the presence of filaments. It seems that the variation of the shapes of structural elements, their reorientation and elongation are determined by the metal flow as a result of impact-extrusion effects. It is shown that the observed deformation processes may steadily persist under substantial thermal loads.
