Coordinated infrared and optical observations of gamma Cas and X Per in late 1976.
Abstract
Summary. Coordinated optical and infrared photometry of the two Be X-stars Cas and X Per were made in late 1976 and compared with previous observations. The energy distribution of Cas is in satisfactory agreement with the circumstellar envelope model of Poeckert & Marlborough. The infrared excess is consistent with a mass loss-rate of a few /yr. No infrared excess was found for X Per during its faint luminosity stage, in agreement with the model invoking a correlation between the stellar brightness and the extension of the drcu'mstellar envelope proposed by Persi, Viotti & Ferrari-Toniolo.
