Irreversible cycles and heating pipes
Abstract
The behavior of the heating pipe containing a chemically pure saturated steam and with capillary-action pumping, is studied under the conditions of irreversible cycle with no overall external work. This cycle is described in a T-S diagram, where the thermodynamics of capillary phenomena are examined. From this analysis the following are described: an internal characteristic, due to the thermodynamics and fluid dynamics of the device, and an external characteristic, defined by the external heat transfer conditions.
