Coupling of large and small eddy structures by homogenization
Abstract
It is suggested that, for the numerical simulation of incompressible flow at large Reynolds numbers, small eddy structures can be regarded as a stochastic process associated with large eddy structures by means of convection and an energy law. Conditions satisfying Kolmogorov's laws are considered. It is shown that if the process is periodic, the large eddy structures are governed by a Navier-Stokes type equation with a supplementary term.
