Analysis of the light and radial velocity variations of the dwarf cepheid SX Poenicis.
Abstract
Results are reported for a periodogram analysis of published radial-velocity and visual brightness data for the dwarf Cepheid SX Phe. Frequency spectra of the star's light and radial-velocity variations are determined. It is found that there are 12 frequencies in the radial-velocity spectrum and 21 in the light variation spectrum, that the two strongest components in both spectra have the same frequencies, and that all but one of the frequencies in the light variation can be represented as combinations of integral multiples of the frequencies of the two strongest components. The O-C residuals for the frequencies in the light variation are computed, the stability of the stellar light curve is examined, and synthetic light and radial-velocity curves are calculated. Models for the variations of SX Phe are considered.
