Diffraction of intense laserlight by an ultrasonic wave in the case of large ultrasonic wavelengths
Abstract
The transmission of a beam of intense laser light through a liquid column, followed by an ultrasonic field is studied theoretically. A system of difference-differential equations of the Raman-Nath type, but with second member, is established for the amplitudes of the spectral lines, produced by the third harmonic lightwave generated in the ultrasonic beam. In the case of large ultrasonic wavelengths, exact solutions are obtained by the generating function method, leading to simple expressions for the intensities of the lines of the diffraction pattern.
