Cartographic Electron Beam Recording
Abstract
The use of an Electron Beam Recorder (EBR) to produce computer-generated maps from remote sensing data is discussed. Scanning and plotting techniques of an EBR, including the raster, subraster, radial, conical, circular, incremental point and stroke vector modes, are considered. Examples of random vector plotting of contours, roads or grids, rectification and enlargement of high-resolution continuous-tone aerial reconnaissance or satellite imagery, and graphic arts typesetting figure in the discussion. Particular attention is given to the performance of the Cartographic EBR system adopted by the U.S. Army Engineering Topographic Laboratories.
