7-bit hybrid coupled, reflection-type, microwave phase shifter
Abstract
The design and principle of a 7-bit hybrid-coupled reflection-type microwave phase shifter capable of providing state-of-the-art performance within an 8 to 18 GHz range are discussed. The device uses high-cutoff PIN diodes to provide minimum transmission loss, regardless of bit size. The rms phase errors are less than + or - 2 degrees over an octave band. The smallest phase step is 2.81 degrees, the maximum available phase shift is 360 degrees, while the maximum insertion loss is approximately 7.5 dB at 18 GHz, and 4.5 dB at 8 GHz. The design constants (optimized circuit constants) of the phase shifter are tabulated.
