Performance of 120-channel hybrid modems for satellite communications
Abstract
Under Intelsat sponsorship, Comsat has developed a modem which accepts an input consisting of 120 FDM voice channels for evaluating a form of pulse amplitude and phase modulation known as hybrid modulation. A field test of two of these modems was conducted between earth stations at Paumalu, Hawaii, and Ibaraki, Japan. These tests included 2-way measurement of signal quality, adjacent and cochannel interference, and speech. This paper describes these modems and some of the test results.
