High-pressure discharge for CO 2 lasers
Abstract
The characteristics of continuous electric discharges stabilised by the plasma-injection technique are described. The gases investigated are N2 and mixtures of N2 and CO2 that are suitable for use in CO2 lasers. Discharge characteristics are presented for wide ranges of pressure, discharge length and gas mixture. Stable discharges in N2 have been achieved at power densities up to 200 MW/m3 (200 kW/litre) at atmospheric pressure.
