Approximate solution to a class of transient forced convection problems
Abstract
A simple and straightforward approximate method is proposed for determining the transient surface condition on a solid body with a variable free stream velocity distribution, which can be either a similar wedge type or a nonsimilar type. The possibility of solving transient nonsimilar problems, when the transient is induced by either a step change in surface temperature or in heat flux, by using an 'equivalent wedge' type of approach is demonstrated. For the particular case of nonsimilar free stream velocity chosen, the proposed prediction method shows good agreement between the approximate nonsimilar solution and the solution by the equivalent wedge method.
