Contrast and determination of the oscillator strength by astrophysical methods
Abstract
The reported investigation is conducted in connection with a study of the abundances in a number of dwarf stars of spectral types in the range between F8 and K3. The selection of spectral lines which are utilized in the study is based on an analysis of the solar spectrum in the spectral region from 3900 to 4900 A. In the solar model constructed, the temperature distribution is used with the optical depth employed by Kurucz (1974) in his atmospheric models. The oscillator strength values listed by Kurucz are used initially for the considered lines. The theoretical profiles of selected Fe lines obtained by this method are compared with the profiles shown in the Utrecht Solar Atlas. The comparison is used as a basis for a derivation of new values for the oscillator strength. The results are listed in a table.
