Characteristics of a jet exhausting into a cross flow
Abstract
In the experiments described, the intensity of entrainment of the mainstream mass by a circular jet exhausting normally into the mainstream was studied by a visualization technique in a water tunnel with a 15 by 15 cm useful length. Photographs of the flow pattern are presented. The flow and jet velocities ranged from 2.3 to 6.8 cm/sec and from 8.2 to 54.0 cm/sec, respectively. It is shown that the width of the entrainment zone at any height is independent of the mainstream and jet velocities, provided their ratio is constant.
