Unsteady resonant motion regimes of a ballistic vehicle in atmospheric flight
Abstract
Unsteady resonant flight regimes of a spinning vehicle with small mass and aerodynamic asymmetries as it reenters the atmosphere are investigated. A method is described that involves an asymptotic splitting of the equations of motion with respect to the center of mass into two equations describing, respectively, the low-frequency and high-frequency motions. Approximate solutions are obtained for the variations of the angles of attack and slip upon passage through resonance. Estimates of the critical values of mass and aerodynamic asymmetry leading to steady resonant spinning regime are obtained.
