The use of Josephson junctions as mixers and parametric amplifiers at microwaves
Abstract
The usefulness of Josephson junctions for high frequency applications such as mixers and parametric amplifiers has been proved in many experiments. Best performance values until now are: noise temperature T sub M = 54 K with a net conversion efficiency (gain) eta = 1.35 for a 36 GHz mixer and noise temperature T sub N = 20 K with a net gain G = 15 db for a 33 GHz parametric amplifier. Both treatments to explain the mixing and amplification phenomena and experiments of Josephson devices for these purposes are reviewed.
