Application of a one degree of transverse freedom system to the attitude control of an operational Ariane large satellite
Abstract
From a brief introduction on the candidate attitude control systems for a geostationary satellite requiring a very high pointing accuracy, the application of the following to an operational Ariane large satellite is presented: one degree of transverse freedom system, radio frequency sensor, programmable control electronics, and magnetic coils. Special emphasis is placed on system capability in terms of accuracy. The optimization of the system for normal mode, station keeping mode, and reacquisition operation is described in some detail for the case of a 1.5 kW satellite. Typical results of simulation are shown for the operational phase.
