Kinetics, energetics and infrared lasing in high energy rocket propellant ingredients at cryogenic temperatures
Abstract
Electric discharge and pyrolytic activation combined with cryogenic quenching have been utilized to synthesize isolable quantities of unusual small compounds of the first row elements. Most are endothermic and stable only at low temperatures. Several of these species have been burned in laser cavities of several designs to explore their efficacy in producing population inversions. Results have been generally disappointing, for no new lasers have been discovered, but work is continuing.
