Drag reduction; International Conference, 2nd, Cambridge University, Cambridge, England, August 31-September 2, 1977, Papers
Abstract
Drag reduction in fluids through the introduction of dissolved or suspended polymers is discussed. The papers deal with such subjects as the analysis of turbulent flow and drag reduction based on entropy considerations, the transport of fly ash-water mixtures in power plant pipelines, the development of an electrostatically-driven flexible wall for drag reduction studies, the use of drag-reducing additives in hydraulic machines, the effects of pressure gradient and heating on the stability and transition of water boundary layers, the drag of circular cylinders, the properties of turbulent mass transfer at the wall of dilute polymer solutions, the laminar and turbulent boundary layers of dilute polymer solutions, and the drag-reducing properties of potassium polyphosphate, polystyrene, poly(acrylic acid) and soluble polymeric coatings.
