A directly reading slant range system
Abstract
A slant-range technique is developed for determining the trajectories of sounding rockets and for localizing balloons. Distance information is transmitted as part of the normal PCM data stream, telemetered at the rate required for the specific purpose. Phase measurement is performed onboard the payload and the ranging frequency is derived from the PCM system.
