Technical description of remote-sensing data receivers and transmitters for balloon experiments
Abstract
A balloon-borne receiver and transmitter and a ground-based receiver and transmitter designed for a maximum transmission distance of 700 km are described. The remote sensing communications system employs PCM transmission and FM; a tolerance for temperatures in the range -40 C to plus 50 C is specified for the balloon-borne equipment. A 200-250 mW transmitter is the chief component of the balloon-borne communications package. A receiver operating in the 135-140 MHz range provides on-ground reception.
