Experimental and theoretical study of boundary layer transition
Abstract
The transition of an incompressible boundary layer, with zero pressure gradient and low free-stream turbulence was investigated. Mean velocity and turbulence profiles are presented. The development of the Tollmien-Schlichting waves is clearly shown until the turbulent spots appear. The intermittency phenomenon was studied by conditional sampling of the hot wire signal; laminar and turbulent properties of the flow during transition are separately determined by this technique.
