Experimental analysis of the characteristics of a turbulent boundary layer in a pulsating flow. An attempt at theoretical prediction
Abstract
An unsteady turbulent boundary layer, on the floor of a subsonic wind tunnel in which a sinusoidally fluctuating free stream was generated, was investigated. In the boundary layer an average velocity was determined as an ensemble average over a great number of cycles for instants in phase in the period. The longitudinal component of turbulence was studied by the determination of its statistical distribution and root mean square. A calculation method based on the resolution of transport equation for the turbulent kinetic energy and its dissipation is presented. Results are compared with experimental data.
