Nonlinear theory of O-type resonance coupling-elements based on fast cyclotron waves
Abstract
O-type-beam coupling-elements operating in the cyclotron-resonance mode can be used in such devices as low-noise parametric amplifiers, delay lines, electronic attenuators and microwave-energy to direct-current converters. A solution to the self-consistent problem of such a device is used to investigate the absorption of HF energy by the electron flux; the electronic part of the problem is studied by analyzing the equations of motion in the HF field. It is found that resonance coupling-elements are not as efficient as distributed-interaction elements in terms of the transfer of HF power from line to beam.
