Bragg scattering effects in solid-state lasers
Abstract
It is shown that Bragg reflection from the periodic structure of an inverted population produces dynamic wave coupling in the laser cavity, which leads to instability of steady-state lasing. The nature of the instability development depends essentially on the type of cavity. The dependence of the developing instability on spatial structure is very important in the case of a Fabry-Perot cavity and might be nearly uniform in cavities which do not couple direct and return waves.
