Theoretical and experimental investigations of multipole radiation of atoms.
Abstract
The principal concepts in the theory of multipole transitions are reviewed. Dirac theory is considered. The discussion covers magnetic multipole radiation, selection rules, interference effect, and two-photon emission. The chief experimental results on radiation of the forbidden lines M2, 2E1, and selected X-ray lines are summarized.
