Comparison of continuum and domain models for magnetization processes in permalloy thin film segments
Abstract
A continuum model using Fourier series was developed and applied to the calculation of magnetization distributions in permalloy I bars. Results of these calculations were presented and compared with some theoretical and experimental results. Fourier series were applied to determine the magnetostatic field distribution from a bubble domain and the resulting magnetization distribution in the I bar. A case of special interest for the analysis of bubble logic devices and of the influence of nearby propagation tracks was the interaction between two bubbles through the medium of the overlay. Domain patterns were observed using the Bitter technique. Two basic patterns are distinguished in demagnetized bars and their change under the influence of an applied field was observed. Dense domain patterns arising in bars after partial saturation were analyzed and interpreted.
